Without any prior club management experience, Udo Lattek took over FC Bayern in 1970 and at the end of the 1971/72 season celebrated the first of six Bundesliga titles he would win in Munich.
Lattek built the team around Maier, Beckenbauer, and Müller and promoted the development of new stars like Paul Breitner and Uli Hoeneß to create an exciting, attacking team. Bayern scored a Bundesliga record 101 goals that season, 40 of them by the outstanding Gerd Müller, and scored at least 5 goals at home seven times.
